11.48 million taxpayers filed Self Assessment on time

HMRC has confirmed that 11.48 million taxpayers filed their Self Assessment return for the 2024 to 2025 tax year by the deadline. That is a significant number of people meeting their annual filing obligation on time.

If you were one of them, no further action is needed on the return itself — though you should make sure any tax owed is paid to avoid interest charges.

If you missed the deadline, it is worth filing as soon as possible to limit any late-filing penalties. HMRC's announcement does not detail what happens to those who filed late, so check your own position directly with HMRC.
